Both pre- and post-Civil War civilian and military surgery sets are on display for comparison to those actually produced during the Civil War for the Union Army Medical and Hospital Dept.
Pre-1865 Medical textbooks and pre-1870 medical college lecture card collections are part of a research project on the education and educators of Civil War surgeons as well as the medical and surgical textbooks they wrote and used. Research is being done on areas of Civil War medicine, medical equipment, and various topics related to the Union Army medical and hospital departments as well as the recruitment of surgeons during the War.
