Author: Wilhelm Fabry (1560-1634). Book: "Observationum et Curationum Chirurgicarum Centuriae." Date: 1641. Fabry is considered one of the fathers of German surgery. The book is full of detailed surgical cases and was published posthumously. It shows a seton clamp being applied to the back of the neck. A hot needle was run through the holes in the clamp and a thread was left under the skin to drain an abcess. This technique was also described by Pare.
