Caution: The instruments shown in the 1870-80's catalogues are not only those from the Civil War.  Later versions and variations are obviously shown, so you have to be careful what you call 'Civil War' when using this catalogue.  I have posted selected pages which show names and drawings of instruments very similar to those found in Civil War surgery sets.  It also gives you the correct names for the instruments.

The 1870 Gemrig catalog on this site is much closer to the Civil War dates as it was printed at the end of the War and most of the instruments shown are truly from that period
