As surgical procedures became more
technically feasible due to anesthesia in the 1840's, surgical sets
become more complex. Many of the sets featured on this page are European
in origin and reflect the high degree of craftsmanship and the technically
advanced state of the surgical arts. As horrifying as it may seem to
most lay people, opening the skull is a skill which has been practiced for
centuries. The high degree of technical sophistication developed in the
1700's can be seen in the neurosurgical sets shown on this page. |
