Expanded Photos of Cased Surgical Sets

Savigny surgical set ca 1800

This is a rare and complete surgical set by Savigny, London. The firm was started by Paul Savigny in about 1720. He took over the business of the "late Widow How at Halbert and Crown, St. Martin's Churchyard, London" according to Elisabeth Bennion. This set is unusual in its completeness and condition considering its age.  Note the angulated handle of the capital amputation saw, the thick downturned blades, and bold stampings characteristic of early Savigny instruments.
