Medicine bottles, ceramic jars, and tin containers used during the Civil War and marked for the U.S. Army Hospital Department or U.S. Army Medical Department.  The bottles are embossed with the USA Hospital Dept. or the USA Med'L Dept. abbreviations.  R.E. Squibb was a major supplier of medicines during the war.  The black japanned tins were closed with a cork and tied cover.  Screw tops are post-Civil War.
